About UsThe Scottish Waste Awareness Group (SWAG) was set up in 2000 with the remit of changing public attitudes and behaviour towards domestic waste.One of SWAG's key aims is to deliver the national Waste Aware Scotland campaign*. The programme aims to raise awareness of, and change public attitudes towards reduce, reuse and recycle and is closely linked to the National Waste Plan for Scotland. This site was proposed by the Scottish Government following a Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) survey on waste disposal in 2005, which highlighted a number of key issues for Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) including:
The Waste Aware Business campaign is funded by the Scottish Government and has also been endorsed by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA). In order to ensure that the website and tools have been developed with the end-user in mind, SWAG has worked closely with both businesses and the waste management industry whilst developing the website. *Waste Aware Scotland is a programme of Keep Scotland Beautiful.
